Learning about Flight at Motat

It was exciting, fun, inspiring, enjoyable and educational!

The boys were intrigued and enraptured.  It was awesome to see inquiry lead to the reading of entire walls of information as Rowandale students eagerly searched for new learning!

Our class highlight was learning about and experimenting with the four main forces which affect flight...

What pikachu's have been writing about?

We have been focussing on planning and editing this term.  We know that a good piece of writing has been planned, reworked and published.  Our best writing has been recounting our favourite experiences.  We are learning to plan while being mindful of our success criteria.  A recent highlight has been publishing our letters to Feed the Need to thank them for our delicious meals that will be missed by all!

Congratulations Powerful Pikachu

Congratulations to all of the Powerful Pikachu team members who reached our class goal today!

In our class we have a peg system that children are able to move up through for making positive learning and behaviour choices. Today we reached our class goal for the term of having everyone that was at school on the Super Student part of the ladder. I am so proud of all of the Powerful Pikachu for learning to work together to achieve our goal and look forward to many more days like this in future.

Mrs Seulata reading to us in Samoan

Wow! Yesterday we were so lucky because Mrs Seulata came to our class and read to us a story in Samoan. She helped explain what the story was about and other members of the class were able to use their prior knowledge to answer questions. Well done to the Language Experts in the class who were able to translate the story themselves. Miss Longstaff was very impressed at the pride and enthusiasm you have displayed for the Samoan Language.

Wednesday's Samoan Language Week Challenge

We hope you enjoy our Video.
We are learning how to say "my name is..." in Samoan

Powerful Pikachu remember the sacrifices of our soldiers on Anzac Day

The Powerful Pikachu are learning about Anzac day and why it is important to commemorate this occasion each year. This year marked the 100th Anniversary of the Gallipoli landing.

Each student has been doing some research about Anzac Day and World War 1 in particular.

Check out some of the things we have been doing:

The Powerful Phoenixes reading group created some information posters as part of their literacy assignment. They first needed to do some research using books and the internet. Then they drafted information and designs in their books before publishing on Comic-Life on the computers.

Payton's information posters

Atoa and Tyson's information poster

Sonia and Sophie's information posters

We also created a reef for our school Anzac assembly ceremony

Photos to come of our awesome tea and coffee stained letters from the trenches of Gallipoli.

We are really interested in discovering more information about Anzac day and the world wars over the next two weeks.

HOME LEARNING LINK: every week I will add a home learning link. House points will be awarded to those children that complete the tasks.

  • write a paragraph describing how your family commemorate Anzac day
  • Research what countries were the major powers during World War 1
  • Create a poem about Anzac day or the war- get your family members to help you.
Welcome to week 2!
